Job Duties:

  • Maintain a focus on safety that promotes a safety-first culture and prioritizes safety in all parts of the operation.
  • Direct operator tasks to provide the appropriate level of staffing throughout the plant to effectively meet business priorities.
  • Provide oversight for all operations on the shift and assist with any necessary decisions and adjustments to maintain good schedule adherence.
  • Evaluate information and resource needs throughout the shift and provide support or reach out for further help as needed to maintain safe and successful performance throughout the plant.
  • Provide primary leadership for the development of operator skills by overseeing training on shift and managing the rotation of operators into new areas.
  • Promote positive workforce morale through clear communication and direction.
  • Provide consistent feedback to operators through daily interactions to reinforce positive behaviors and correct any performance or behavioral issues.
  • Coordinate scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities on shift.
  • Provide feedback to area owners, engineers, and management to address issues, improve processes, and achieve productivity goals.
  • Manage the administrative functions for operators on the shift (e.g. vacation, time keeping).
  • Report production information for each shift both during turnover and to management.
  • Be a reliable representative of management for the shift providing leadership, communication, and support to achieve business and cultural goals for the organization.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution required
  • At least one year of demonstrated supervisory experience
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Tools is required (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • High level of technical aptitude and the ability to learn and multi-task
  • Mechanical aptitude and knowledge preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required, including leading group discussions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule

Physical Requirements:

The requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee:

  • Must be able to work in hot and cold environments.
  • Must be able to climb stairs.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to observe and hear warning signs and signals within all areas of the plant
  • Must be able to work a 12-hour shift while standing most of the time
  • Must be physically able to drive a forklift
  • Employee must be able to wear protective eye wear
  • Employee must be able to wear protective hearing gear
  • Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision
  • Must be able to type on a computer keyboard

Work environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an encountered while performing the essential functions of this job:

  • Work is performed primarily in a factory or warehouse environment.
  • The employee is exposed to dust, powdered carbon which makes work environment dirty
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to low decibels but there are areas which require hearing protection
