Construction Materials Project Manager

S&ME is seeking an individual to join our Construction Services team in Augusta, Georgia as a Construction Materials Project Manager and help us provide engineering solutions to our clients.


What You Will Do:

As a Construction Materials Project Manager, you will be responsible for project coordination and execution of Construction Materials Testing and Special Inspection projects. This includes the responsibility to generate and/or review field and laboratory cost estimates and proposals in alignment with project plans, specifications, International Building Code (IBC) requirements, and client-provided requests for proposals. You will be serving as a lead inspector, overseeing and mentoring technicians and engineers. Regular interactions with clients and contractors are expected, involving the review of project plans and specifications. Continued site visits are conducted to assess construction status and progress, ensuring compliance and successful project outcomes.

  • Meet with clients and contractors to review project plans and specifications with continued site visits to assess construction status and progress
  • Prepare documentation of (and mentor staff in performing) field activities, observations, and testing on construction projects, and their conformance with (or deviation from) project plans and specifications
  • Daily use of Metafield, and/or other field and laboratory information management systems, for recording and reporting of field observations and testing results
  • Responsible for all coordination and preparation of report submittals, technical scope and budgets for a variety of projects
  • Develop relationships with peers in the local engineering and construction communities through participation in local professional organizations such as the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Associated General Contractors (AGC), and American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC)

Who You Are:

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geological, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • You have at least 4 years of experience in Construction Materials Testing
  • You have a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Georgia or have the ability to obtain licensure within six (6) months is a plus

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough and uneven terrain
  • Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
  • Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
