Job Description

3-4 days off a week with 3 day weekends every other weekend.

Job Summary

The Boiler Operator is responsible for the operation of the boiler and boiler processes.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Starts boiler fire; may operate water tube boiler, coal, gas, or wood fired boilers.
  • Checks reverse osmosis unit.
  • Monitors feed water, boiler water, water softener, and water treatment unit.
  • Adds chemicals on a daily basis.
  • Monitors oil temperature in turbine bearings; measures oil in underground storage tanks.
  • Performs daily greasing and oiling.
  • Conducts coal inventory; keeps area around coal hopper clean.
  • Assures equipment and work area is clean after each shift.
  • Maintains safety as top priority in accordance with all company safety rules and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-2 years prior experience in boiler operation and/or rendering facility.
  • Boiler Operator's license if required by local regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledge of water tube boilers, principles of combustion, water composition, and steam generation.
  • Basic math skills; performs various calculations including heating and fuel consumption rate.
  • Good oral and written skills.
  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends as needed.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch.
  • Frequently must push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Regularly required reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

Job functions will be carried out in a rendering facility which requires tolerance for wet and/or slippery floors, and high heat and/or cold temperatures.
