Job Description



  • Provides engineering support for technicians, technical supervisors and senior engineers with the installation, checkout, and maintenance of protective relays and associated control circuitry to ensure proper protection of generators, transformers, transmission lines, and other power system equipment. The incumbent must possess leadership, analytical and communication skills.


  • Essential Job Tasks:
  • Provides engineering support for the installation, maintenance and testing of protective relays and associated control devices and performs any necessary operational checks with moderate guidance.
  • Serves as a team leader within the department with moderate oversight from the Supv. of System Protection and Control.
  • Keeps the Supv. of System Protection and Control informed of all personnel matters with team members.
  • Informs supervision of any technical or safety issues that may jeopardize employees, customers or the Bulk Electric System.
  • Uses computers and associated software to view, analyze and program protective relays, SCADA RTU's, ethernet switches, fault recorders and other substation equipment.
  • Provides engineering support in the installation, maintenance and testing of SCADA RTU's and associated control devices and performs any necessary operational checks with moderate guidance.
  • Provides engineering support in the fabrication and wiring of protective relay panels, power circuit breakers, SCADA RTU's, digital fault recorders, sequence of events recorders and associated equipment with moderate guidance.
  • Keeps accurate and adequate records of relay commissioning and functional tests.
  • Ensures all records for NERC compliance are correct and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Works on standby status and overnight travel may be required to expedite station construction, relay testing, or trip checking.
  • Assists the supervisor of System Protection & Control with scheduling and coordinating construction and maintenance activities, work management in Maximo, technical guidance, NERC compliance, CIP compliance and personnel training.
  • Serves as a technical resource for junior and entry level employees.

  • Engineer I
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited college/university.
  • Must be proficient with computers and software.
  • FE preferred.


  • Compensation Information:
    $72,550 - $90,680 (min. - mid.)

    Engineer II
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited college/university + 2 years experience.
  • Must be proficient with computers and software.
  • FE license preferred.


  • Compensation Information:
    $80,890 - $101,110 (min. - mid.)

    Engineer III
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited college/university + 5 years experience.
  • Must be proficient with computers and software.
  • FE license required.
  • PE license in S.C. preferred.


  • Compensation Information:
    $90,190 - $112,730 (min. - mid.)

    Senior Engineer
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited college/university + 5 years experience.
  • Must be proficient with computers and software.
  • PE license in S.C. required.


  • Compensation Information:
    $100,550 - $125,680 (min. - mid.)
